October 20 at 10:20 AM is an important moment worldwide. Mark your calendar, because this is when millions of people will participate in a worldwide practice drill for the Great ShakeOut. The organization ShakeOutBC knows it’s important to be prepared.
Most of us have practised some form of a safety drill at school or at work; these drills prepare people for and to minimise the effects of an emergency, like an earthquake. There’s a wide range of preparedness measures recommended, but the big one that everyone will practice that day is Drop, Cover and Hold On. Seismologist Alison Bird is going to take us through the Drop, Cover and Hold On drill, and will offer lots of great ideas for how to prepare for an earthquake.
