Henry and Sue Alfred | indigenous self-governance |
Rita George, who lives in Topley, showed me a new skill she’s bringing back from memory. It's called tumpline, or sash weaving. Rita and I are now considering how we can arrange a tumpline workshop here in Moricetown!
We’ll also hear from Henry and Sue Alfred. Henry is the last surviving chief from the Delgamuuk courtcase. When two Grade 12 law students from Mount Sentinel Secondary (in Nelson BC) wanted to talk with an expert on indigenous self government, I set up a Skype interview. In this episode of In These Mountains, some clips from that, with Henry's thoughts on the history of our local governance.
