Last week the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Low Carbon Innovation announced it was halting all mineral tenures and mining activity on Gitxaala territory while the provincial government proceeds with reforming mining legislation across the province.  

This follows years of negotiation and a successful  Gitxaala legal challenges of the Mineral Tenure Act at B.C. Supreme Court last year.

Today we’ll speak with Minister for Energy, Mines and Low Carbon innovation, Josie Osboure as to why this order to halt mining activities is coming now and what comes next.

Although, Gitxaala Elected Chief Linda Innus was not available for comment, we spoke with her last April as she and other Gitxaala leadership were in Vancouver for the hearings challenging the Mineral Tenure Act in B.C. Supreme Court.
