Last week the House of Commons voted unanimously to pass Bill C-58, An Act to amend the Canada Labour Code, to include anti-scab legislation, and you heard that right, unanimously. A huge legislative anomaly, given the history of such a contentious issue.
The anti-scab legislation, that is when companies, and in this case, federally regulated companies, use temporary workers during a strike. The bill heads to the Senate which will be debated over the next two weeks.
Today we speak with Member of Parliament for Skeena-Bulkley Valley, Taylor Bachrach about the vote, what it means for the future of labour relations in Canada and why all parties decided to agree for once.
