Steven Biggs is a farm writer, a food writer, a garden writer, and a professional speaker. He's passionate about sharing stories from the food chain.
I recently reread The 100-Mile Diet, A Year in Local Eating; by Alisa Smith and JB MacKinnon. One of the lines in that book that really stood out for me was this:
“Our inability to feed the world is not an agricultural failure; it is a failure both of imagination and of kindness.”
Lucky for us, there are many imaginative and kind food producers with whom we can connect, and who intersect the realities of food security with what’s possible. If you’ve been anxious over your community’s ability to keep the grocery shelves stocked, you’re in good company. People all over the world are concerned about food security, especially in a pandemic.
Steven and I discuss ideas for what YOU can grow in your yard.
