Recently, my Linked In account alerted me that the Kingston Ontario project Bags of Promise had officially become a registered charity in Canada, as of May 10. With that announcement, I decided to re-air the episode The Young Philanthropists. When this episode airs, I will be on Queen’s University campus attending the National Campus and Community Radio Association Conference. How appropriate!
In the spring of 2021, Brooke Baker and Celina Lovisotto co-founded a project in Kingston Ontario called Bags of Promise. Their intent was to create opportunities for change for youth experiencing homelessness, not just by collecting donations for the Kingston Youth Shelter, but more importantly, by building meaningful relationships between Kingstonites and students attending local colleges and universities, to ensure that no child is left behind. And neither are their belongings.
Celina Lovisotto and Brooke Baker have been nominated for the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards.
