Program:
Carpentry--particularly wood working--is a skilled trade in which the primary work performed is the cutting, shaping and installation of building materials. But for anyone who sees carpentry as a craft, there’s something magical about transforming a piece of wood into a functional and beautiful object. And then there’s a blacksmith who works with metals. Most movies dated in medieval times feature a blacksmith, at work in their forge or a blacksmith's shop, or—how appropriate for Smithers—a smithy.
Curtis Cunningham is both a wood worker and a blacksmith, and the owner/ operator of Formed and Forged. I found him at the BV Farmers’ Market surrounded by the most functional and beautiful collection of tools.
