This week, we're training community activists in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
What do you think of when you hear that phrase, Bosnia and Herzegovina? A part of the former Yugoslavia, this small country of approximately three million people suffered a terrible war in the 1990s, from which it still has not recovered. Corruption from the war persists and citizens continue to leave. Sue Knaup of the non-profit organization One Street introduced me to this country with the adjectives, “gorgeous, vibrant, and dynamic.” And, not everyone is leaving. Sue has been working with a group of change makers in BiH, whom she describes as “some of the brightest and most effective community activists”. These activists are determined to reignite the community pride by creating positive change. In a country with some dark history, there’s so much cause for hope.
One Street is an international non-profit organization that provides bicycle advocacy resources and consulting to nonprofits around the world, honoring a group’s distinctness as they work to increase bicycling in their communities. This is the first of a two-part series on the impact One Street has had, and continues to have, around the world.
