Today (May 31), our annual Moricetown Health Fair is being held in the Multiplex.
We’re going to end this episode speaking with Elaine Stevens, who will share the Health Fair’s mandate. The day I caught Elaine, she was preparing our hair donations to be mailed to the Cancer Society in Terrace. At last week’s Basket Social and Hair Cutting event, the village raised $3,998.50, and shaved nine heads of hair. All money goes to purchasing toys for the Vancouver Children’s Hospital; all hair donated—my salt and pepper locks included—will become wigs for cancer survivors.
But first, a wonderful new Witsuwit’en Language and Cultural Tourism Course! For the entire month of May, this course was offered at the Moricetown Centennial Hall. Everyone was welcome to sit in, because there was an incredible amount of invaluable information offered. I spoke with Mélanie Morin, the primary teacher for the course, who will give us some insight on how this little village now has eight professional Witsuwit’en cultural and historical specialists ready to take you on a tour of our canyon.
